ORS Forges Chicago x Atlanta Connection Prior to the DNC Convention
We welcomed Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson during AAMA Conference 2024
To kick off the 2024 Democratic National Convention, we’re flashing back to a behind-the-scenes look at a special conversation Ohio River South convened with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Mayor Johnson attended the 10th annual conference of the African American Mayors Association in Atlanta, and brought with him insights about the DNC. The room was carefully curated with 50 movers and shakers from across the country.
Johnson shared thoughts about why Chicago is uniquely positioned to host the DNC – touting their strong union ties and extensive public transit – and his efforts to prepare the city for 50,000 visitors over the coming week.
He also spoke about the importance of AAMA, prioritizing underinvested communities and expanding minority contracting. The timing couldn’t have been better, as Black mayors currently lead some of the country’s largest cities.
It was a terrific honor to welcome Mayor Johnson to Atlanta and hear how his administration is tackling issues that both cities face. Special thanks to Dan Halpern for calling the play. We’ll see you in Chicago (while strategizing to bring the 2028 convention to the ATL)!
